Packing guide

Tigerair' guide to holiday packing

Some say the fun of going on holiday starts when the packing begins; those who dread it would probably beg to differ. Whichever camp you fall into, these packing tips should come in handy whether you're a seasoned traveller or a first timer.

Packing Tips
  • Don't pack liquid or gel substances in your hand luggage unless they are in individual 100ml containers, enclosed in a clear plastic, zip-top bag per passenger. Any larger containers of liquids and gels must be packed in your checked luggage.
  • Keep your valuables close. Pack your jewellery or high value items into your hand luggage as a precaution.
  • Carry all film with you onboard, as screening equipment for checked luggage can damage undeveloped film.
  • If you lock your checked luggage, try to use TSA-approved locks - these locks can be opened by security officers using universal "master" keys. Otherwise, if your bag is selected for random checks, custom agents will have to break the lock to look inside.
  • Don't overstuff your bag. Your bag may be selected for inspection, so make this as easy as possible - you don't want your clothes to end up wrinkled or even lost.
  • If you're not comfortable with strangers handling some of your belongings, place those items in clear plastic bags.
  • Check to ensure that the weight of your luggage is optimised and in accordance with the new Luggage Upsize™ policy, especially if you have made your booking online. Otherwise, there may be extra charges incurred when you reach the airport.

It's always a good idea to leave some room in your checked luggage for all the shopping you'll be doing. Here are some space-saving ideas:

How to Save Space
  • Bring tops and bottoms that can be mixed and matched, turning three outfits into five or six.
  • Wear your heaviest shoes and/or clothes on the flight so you don't have to pack them.
  • Pack small items inside larger ones for maximum space utilisation.
  • Make sure your hand luggage allocation of 7kg is fully utilised, so that less needs to go into checked luggage.
  • Roll your clothes instead of folding them; you'll be surprised how much more space that gives you.
  • Use underwear and socks as "fillers" and stuff them into empty gaps between your various items.
